PCIE Network Adapter Question

Guest
Go to solution Solved by Tomuks,

CaptainGunny, you can add this pcie card without any isues, it will use PCH lines not cpu

"Support for 16 PCI Express 3.0 lanes from CPU, 20 PCI Express 3.0 lanes from PCH (LGA 1151)"

So the Asus PCE-N15 Wireless N PCIe Adaptor stats that it is PCI EXpress. That's all good and all, but I'm wondering would it use 1 PCIE for the CPU? I mean I guess it would, but does that mean the GPU would only run in 8x? I'm talking about skylake by the way.

Thanks and please reply!

Skylake has 16 PCI-E lanes. That means adding any PCI-E card beyond the gpu will force the gpu to run at 8x wich is fine

Doing some research I've read that putting it in an x1 slot does not count as PCIE lanes.

Even if your GPU runs at 8x, you won't notice it, nothing will change
