Hello,

Here is a little story for you, i hope you will be able to help me...

So i have a Toshiba Satellite A300 (7years old) laptop. It ran windows 7 64bit for 3 years without any problem. Then come out the upgrade to Windows 10, i upgraded and i started getting random shutdowns. Usualy it was when playing some games on facebook so i tought about overheating or dirvers not ready for w10. Since i wanted to switch to linux anyway, i installed Arch Linux 64 bit, then i installed Ubuntu 15.04 and... it still shuts down randomly. So i tought it must overheat, i opened it, cleaned and changed thermal compound. As you may guess it didnt help, id even say shutdown now are nearly immediate, boot up and after a minute or 2 it shuts down. (Temps were ok. 40~ °C and before i cleaned it they were like 70+°C). So maybe i screwed up something when i opened it? Out of desperation i tried my old harddrive with Ubuntu 11.04 32bit - it works perfectly.  Now, since its 32bit it uses only 3gb of ram out of 4 total, so maybe this 1gig is dead? Run memtes86 - shutdown. Tried every ram stick - shutdown. Tried installin w7 64bit - shutdown. Left it in bios for a while - shutdown. Ok...

I would say the cause is some hardwear issue but old install of ubuntu 11.04 still runs perfectly. I have no idea how to fix this, i dont even know what's the cause...

perhaps buy new memory for it?

if it shut down during memtest maybe its because the issue with the memory is its so borked it becomes a danger to the PC so it shuts it off?

idk man. *hugs* ;~:

keep trying 32bit?

Watch out for each other. Love everyone and forgive everyone, including yourself. Forgive your anger, forgive your guilt. Your shame. Your sadness. Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.
