New Desk and Case Modding

Go to solution Solved by Bangflop,

Here theses RGB LED's from Amazon are fairly straight forward to install and put together and let you control different lighting modes:

Now I am kinda dumb when it comes to LED's and lighting strips and whatnot so I'm just going to ask it and put it out there... if I don't use the full loop of lights, can I just snip off what I don't use and will it still work? And can I plug in what I don't use into the same controller and have that still work as well?

So I recently bought a new desk for my gaming room and it is an all black desk with cable management in it and all that magical stuff.

I will also be getting the Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 case to go along with this new desk.

I want to do some modding with LED's to the desk and the computer case when I do get it but I am unsure as to what and where to buy the required components.  I am looking at going for a classic red and black theme for my desk and case but if there are any reasonably priced RGB LED's on the market, that would be great for when I get bored of the color scheme.

My desk dimensions are 60"L 28"W 30"H

My price range is around $150 or less.

Yes they have marked out cut lines where you can cut the strip to length as needed.

Can you use the cut off strips on the same controller?

Yea it's not a problem, the strip itself has cut sections every 3 LED chips so as long as you add new leads to the LED either by soldering the 4 wires (for RGB) or clamping on the new leads. You might need a splitter though from the main control box to have two separate LED strips.

This shows a demonstration of what happens if you don't cut along the lines and connecting LED's (@1:08):

Thank you for all the help. I feel much more confident in doing the mods that I want to now.
