Currently have 2x240GB Kingston SSDNow in RAID-0 config, and a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB as a secondary drive. What I was thinking is sell the 2 Kingstons cause the write speed is utter shit, then get another 500GB Samsung and RAID-0 those for a single drive setup. Are there any downsides with filling the boot drive to 50-60% with such speeds the RAID-0 Samsungs would give? I'm looking at a $0 net loss with todays market.

Why Raid? Why not use both? 0.4s is not a lot of time to save.

Cause RAID is bae, then again alike many computer parts it's 'for show'. But when you have 2 identical drives, why not RAID them?

You won't notice any performance degradation before it's filled to 80%. Then the speed may start to decrease a bit. But honestly, using raid 0 on ssds doesn't make a lot of sense.

Because you're doubling (and then some) the chances of failure.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yeah! Ahaha I have a 120gb SSDnow as a bootdrive but i don't really notice any problems with it, plan on a 1tb samsung next so won't really notice any slowness until then.

~snip~

Hey there AlexisWiiu,

Larger capacity SSDs tend to have better transfer speeds and generally tend to perform better. However, having all your data on a single RAID0 array significantly increases the risk of losing it since Striped array does not offer any redundancy whatsoever and if either of the drives fails you would lose everything. If you decide to do that I would strongly recommend keeping backups of your data on a separate drive that is preferably not attached to the system for best data safety. :)
