Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my power supply after upgrading my GPU from a 7870 to a 780. The power supply used to run quiet at all times and the fan was not audible even when under load and it hasn't been for the last week even after upgrading. However now whilst gaming the PSU fan is very loud and there is a noticeable buzzing sound coming from it, this continues for about 10 minutes after I have finished gaming and then the PSU is silent again.

The maximum stated load for the PSU is 504W and the recommended minimum for a 780 is 600W. Am I overloading the PSU?

Thanks

It's possible you're overloading. What's your CPU. Also, is it a like an 'eeeee' sound?

I am good at computer

It doesn't sound like coil whine usually does when game menus run at like 3000FPS. My CPU is a 3570k at 4.2GHz and my 780 is overclocked.

A typical symptom for exceeding the wattage is random shutdowns, or major damage to the computer....

Well my pc hasn't being shutting down and I don't want to risk damaging anything.

I don't know. That's a very good PSU as far as cheap ones go. It may be caused by it being stressed at maxxing out the wattage, but the loudness would be coming during gaming. Not game menu's

I guess I will just deal with the noise then, it's strange that it only started yesterday though when I've been gaming with my new GPU for a whole week.

I'm confused. The link for me is of a 600w Silverstone PSU? Anyways how long have you had the power supply?

I'll just deal with the extra noise if my PSU can provide enough power for my system as I do not want to have to but a new PSU. It may just be getting hot and trying to cool itself.
