So I wanted to get some insight from you guys on what I was thinking of doing as well as what suggestions the storage pro's would have for  me.

Situation:

I have a bunch of disks of different sizes, 500G, 2x1Tb, 2Tb etc.  So obviously doing a RAID would be wasteful.  I'm going to be creating another Samba server out of these disks so I would like my data to be redundant.

My possible solution:

Create two systems, Samba server: everything on LVM so I can expand the volumes easily when space is needed.  A backup server: also on LVM for a backup logical volume that is easily expandable.  Setup rsync in a cronjob between the backup server and the samba server to run every night.

What do you guys think?  Am I better off just consolidating everything, selling it and just starting over with one raid system or do you have any other better solutions?
