I have a floor lamp next to my desk, with a foot switch, that is plugged in to the same power board as my PC.

Sometimes when I turn it OFF, I will hear the USB disconnect sound and I've only just noticed that it's my Xbox One controller that is disconnecting, forcing me to unplug and replug it back it.

Is it possible this is because my lamp is sending some power surge into the board? Will this explode my PC into a million pieces? Because that would be very unfortunate and costly and messy and OH PLEASE GOD I DON'T WANT TO EXPLODE

PC: i7-3770k, GTX 670, 16gb 1600mhz, SSDs only, Corsair K70, Razer Deathadder, Windows 10.

Happens with my fan. When I turn it off my light goes out or turns non. Not sure exactly...

Cheap power bar?

I certainly wouldn't say it's the best ever...

Probably a good time to invest in something a little better

Anything's possible but if your PSU is at least somewhat high quality, it'll have protection. You can also get an external surge protector for it.

My PSU should be alright, OCZ 750w.

My power board does have surge protection, but it's probably not the best

Yeah mine is cheap so I'm assuming that's why this happens. Bad ground?

I honestly have NO IDEA how to ground ANYTHING and have no understanding of it whatsoever.

All those times they say to ground yourself before touching electronics? No idea. Ignore. Blow stuff up. Whatever.

Touch anything metal to ground yourself haha. I meant bad ground as in the power bar may have a bad ground connection.

The metal object has to be a certain size or attached to anything? Does touching a freaking screwdriver do that?

I assume its ground connection is fine. And from what I can tell, the only plug in my power board that doesn't have a ground connection is an External HDD (third, bottom, prong is ground. This I know).

Edit: Scrap that, of course the HDD has ground. DUH

Touch something larger. Door knobs work well.
