My friend put together his new computer and he is telling me that when he tries to install drivers as it goes to install catalyst control centre it says that there was an error installing and then the only thing he can do is cancel.

He has a r9 380

I though i would see if you guys know what is going on because I can only do so much from a distance.

i5 4460, ASRock H97 mother board, radeon R9 380 GPU, ZU-700b power supply

8gb ram, 2tb hard drive

windows 8.1

Now, I really hope I'm wrong, but... did he plug the monitor's cable directly in the gpu instead of into the motherboard?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

still, checking where the cable is plugged can be done regardless.

Hey, just stumbled on this thread while looking into it myself, I'm the friend with the computer.

I had it plugged into both at different times. Plugging into the GPU resulted in nothing but a black screen until I reboot it with the card disabled and the moniter plugged into the motherboard. I'm quickly thinking that the card might be bad, but that doesn't really explain the drivers not installing...
