New Build Random Shutdowns

Go to solution Solved by Rix_77,

Thanks for the tips gang,

I unplugged my PC from the Surge Protected side of the UPS and plugged it into the Battery Backup + Surge Protection side (Which is what I thought I had done in the first place)

and I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it however it hasn't shut down on me since.

Maybe when my rig draws some extra power the battery takes up the slack? don't know..

Thanks for your replies

Hi all,

I have recently upgraded my PC, and it shutdowns randomly whilst playing games. Mostly im playing Mechwarrior Online atm, and that would be the most graphically intensive game I play.
I have updated to Windows 10 Pro, however this was done at the same time as the rebuild so Im unsure as to if this might be the cause or if its something else entirely.
I thought maybe it was my UPS however the monitoring software says its only drawing 70 Watts steady (though this doesn't seem right to me).
I have my monitor, PC, 4TB external HDD, Wifi Router, Speakers & TV plugged into the UPS, though when its shutting down I only have the monitor, PC & the router drawing power.

Also hoping my system doesn't really draw more than it should due to my new GPU

I've been getting Critical Kernel-Power Event Id 41 (task Category 63) when It happens.

CPU - Intel i7-3770

MB - Gigabyte GA-H77M-D3H

RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB 2133MHz

GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 WindForce OC 4GB

Storage - Corsair Force LS 120Gb, Seagate SSHD 1TB

PSU - Silverstone SX500LG 500W Gold SFX + Eaton Powerware 3S 550W UPS

Cooling - Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler

Speakers - Microlab Solo 6C Gamers Audio Speakers

Any Ideas? Im lost

That Eaton PSU sounds like trouble, never heard of that manufacturer before.

EDIT: it's a UPS, didn't read properly.

How does the PC shut down? Does it log off or just intermittently black out?

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.

The whole thing just Powers off really suddenly and then restarts

Do you see post screen? Also if you can see post screen, on bios keep running system, you will see CPU temprature, may be the CPU cooler isnt installed well, and because of that its keep restarting. remove hdd, gpu, and Plug monitor on Onboard gpu output and then boot. You will get error of no booting device, but you will able to monitor all in Bios. Monitor your temp. and keep running atleast 10-15 mins or untill it automatically restarts.

I had similier issues with Gigabyte MB, after 2 days i have to send to RMA, they had to replace it.

Ive had the CPU, Motherboard, UPS, RAM & SSD for a couple of years now

Ill have a shot at running it without the UPS, though protecting the PC with the UPS was the reason I bought it in the first place.

Pretty certain I have all the right drivers and the CPU never gets hotter than about 50 deg C. Mechwarrior Online does seem to max out the GPU according to Open Hardware Monitor.

When It shuts down it posts and runs through the normal BIOS startup routine, then boots Windows.
