I was doing some research last couple of days about fans, and I noticed that the 140 mm fan on my cpu cooler is a case fan (R2 fan of fractal). Do I see a resonable improvement in my cpu temps if I replace it with 1 or 2 140mm SP fans?

Also, I was looking into custom watercooling my rig when it is done (only needs an new gpu). I have a Define R4 now, and I was wondering what a nice case would be for my first watercooling project. I thought maybe the R5 or define S, but I want some other opinions from u guys ^^.

What I am looking for in a case:

-Enough room for custom watercooling (pref 2 280/420 rad(s))

-Not too large (still need to carry it by hand for a big distance to LANS)

My pc specs are as follows:

Intel 4790k (stock speeds (for now :) )

Asus Maximus VII HERO Z97

550ti (will be replaced by an 980ti (prob asus Direct CU III)

RM1000 (maybe in future 980ti in SLI)

m.2 256 Plextor ssd

3tb WD black

500gb WD caviar

Thanks in advance!

My current rig:

CPU :Intel I7 4790K , MOBO: Asus Maximus Hero VII , STORAGE: Plextor m6e 256Gb + WD Black 3Tb, GPU(s): 1x ASUS STRIX GTX 1060, PSU: Corsair RM1000 , CASE: Fractal Design S.

What model cpu cooler? What is the model number on the R2 fan?

If you are considering a smaller motherboard take a look at the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX and mini-ITX cases. Also the Enthoo Mini XL. Otherwise you might consider the Nzxt S340.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Its not worth to replace the fan when you are planning on liquid cooling it. I like the nzxt h630, it fits a 360 in the top and a 240 in the bottom, and you don't block the front intakes. But its pretty big.

I was thinking about using those fans in the watercooling build.

The CPU cooler is an Prolimatech Armageddon

The R2 fans modelnumber is Fd-fan-ssr2-140.

I would prefer to keep this motherboard, cause I just got it :P.

I will look at those cases for sure ^^

Then you can do it.

But its more like. Is it worth replacing? Cause with the watercooling I can use this fan too.

I would do it, but order all the fans you need for watercooling, so you only have to pay shipping once.

Okay. Which fans would you recommend. I would like to have 140 mm fans, because of the cooler I am using now. I really like the look of the corsair SP120's (Wit hthe colored rings), but I can't find them in 140mm sizes.

The only SP140 are the led version. I would recommend you the Fractal Design Venturi fans, they are really good. I replaced some old fans with them not long ago, and the pc is now much qiueter.

I looked at those too, but they are quite expensive where I live. For about the same price I can get the Noctua Industrial fans. ( about 21 euro's , noctua's are 25).

Can you even fit 140mm radiators, because you could just get 120mm radiators and fans. And now attach a 120mm fan to the heatsink.

Well, I will get a new case for the watercooling. So I'll be sure to make it compatible. The 120mm fans won't fit on my heatsink because of the mounting of the fans (Even though the website claims it can fit, I really don't see how)

How much do you want to pay?

If I get a much better performance, as much as needed. But if you say, well it varies 1 degree, of course as cheap as possible.
