So I got a PS4 controller for my PC, and apparently it was one of those first wave controllers. You know,  the ones with the sticks that peeled easily. And the inevitable happened.

Soo, now I'm looking into some replacement sticks, and I'm torn between metal ones or Xbone ones.

Has anyone here done this before? Which ones would you guys recommend?

They both seem alright. The aluminium seem pretty cool but they might not be comfortable after a while of playing..  Thumb stick-wise I think I do prefer the shape of the Xbox One's over the PS4's but I prefer the DS4 more overall as a whole controller.

I have't replaced anything for my DS4 that came with my PS4 that I got around April last year, so I am unsure how the procedure of modifying it any whatnot is.

What version of Windows are you using it for and what software do you use?

I've used it mostly on Windows 8.1 with InputMapper. Now I'm using it on Windows 10, and it still works fine, though there's a small issue with DS4Windows and IM due to that Xbox app that comes with the OS. Those two apps give the controller a ton of extra functionality; it's great. I use it even as a remote for movies.

And yeah, I love this controller and don't really mind the shape of the sticks, but the right one has peeled off really bad, so I have to change them either way. Replacing them is not too hard if you're comfortable opening electronics up.

what games do you use the DS4 for?  I primarily want to use it for Dark Souls but it seems really messed up to the point that it won't even recognize it or the inputs don't match up..

I used InputMapper for the most part when I was on windows 7 and everything worked swell.

I basically use it for anything that is in third person, lol. Dark Souls/Dark Souls II, GTA, Witcher 3, a couple fighting games (the stick peeling started happening after a good session of 3rd strike, lol) any platformers or emulated games. Basically, I use it for any game that isn't RTS/MOBA, which absolutely needs a mouse. And then I have a profile on InputMapper set to switch when I launch VLC or MPC with buttons mapped to media keys for some movie/anime watching.

Since the Xbox app messed up the exclusive mode option on IM, games that require it (like Dark Souls 1 and 2) don't work well until they find a fix, so I'm having to use x360ce for those games.
