So I have 4 2tb drives I want to use as backup and I want to have some redundancy. I dont understand what options I have with freenas. See this: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/how-do-i-setup-a-raid-5.36090/#post-221009

FreeNAS uses ZFS filesystems. which offers huge benefits over RAID which is frankly, a dinosaur... Use freeNAS, set up a RaidZ1 pool and be forever happy :)

I also cant get it to show up in my network.

What you want is RAIDZ1, which is essentially the same as RAID5.  A single pool consisting of 3 drives + 1 redundancy.

How do I setup zfs? I see to hadd volumes and I click encrypted zfs and need to upload a passkey and cant sleect drives.

FreeNAS is a NAS OS built mainly for software file systems. ZFS is far better than Raid 5 anyhow so as long as you have at least 8GB of RAM (12GB or more recommend for your setup) just use ZFS. Also since it's software you don't need a Raid card or put your drives into Raid via the motherboard's chipset.

If you installed FreeNAS on the stick, give it a few minutes.  Open your router's control panel and see what IP adresses it detects.  One of those will be the NAS.

Enter that IP adress in your browser and you should get to the control panel (after choosing a password etc the first time you enter the control panel)

all done already
