Building a new pc.

Go to solution Solved by OAcesync,

Thanks for the reply, the MSI GeForce GTX 960 GAMING 2G I can buy i can buy for around 220 euro's where as the 390 which you mentioned I get 25 result on my comparison website (http://tweakers.net/) All of which are at a higher price mark. almost to the point where I could buy a 970 for the same price. should i invest the money i would save on the processor invest into that better gpu?

Yes you should invest into more GPU, a GPU should always be the most expensive thing in a gaming build.

Hello there, in the last 2 weeks I have come to the conclusion to build a new pc, the old one is going to a family member (yay! more spending money for the new one),

But i need a bit of help from a professional to see if i am doing anything stupid before i decide to buy all the parts. Took me 3 days to compile this list and i am slightly over budget, so if the total  price can go down that be great.

1. Budget & Location
I am getting sponsored for 600 Euro's with an own investment up to another 600 making a total valeu of 1200,- euro's but the goal originally was to be done for 1000,- euro's. I live in the Netherlands so I am mostly tied to local suppliers.

2. Aim
High end gaming for the next 3-5 years, I want this pc to be the ground work for some high end gaming for when a title comes out that I am interested in that I can enjoy it in its full glory. I do not mind upgrading some parts over time.

3. Monitors
LG E2250V 21,5  LED >5000000:1 >2ms> HDMI This is my currently used monitor but i am planning in the future to run 2 monitors one for gaming with a second one for things like yoututbe, forums, twitch and other things for multitasking.

4. Peripherals
I will need an operating system, and I am very familiar with windows 7 home premium (not a fan at all of windows 8), I got a razer black widow keybord a pair of boxes and a razer naga mmo mouse. so i just need a pc with a OS.

5. Why are you upgrading?

The old system is getting dated noticeably, I will list below the current pc, and a list of parts which i found for a potential new pc. )little head sup, I am not a pc genius but I want to build the pc myself since this will be a good learning opportunity, also overclocking i know nothing about and will prolly screw up)

If anyone could take a look at potential problems or stupidly overpriced items in this list that have cheaper alternatives that would be greatly appreciated, Thanks for the help!

Lose the i7 for a i5 and a 390

You could get a better case for the price the 300R is a bit overpriced when you could get a S340(don't worry you can still install OS off of a external drive)

I would get a cheaper Z97 or H81 if you're not overclocking

You could get a better PSU from EVGA,XFX,Seasonic

                                                                                                                 Setup

CPU: i3 4160|Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE|RAM: Kingston HyperX Blue 8GB(2x4GB)|GPU: Sapphire Nitro R9 380 4GB|PSU: Seasonic M12II EVO 620W Modular|Storage: 1TB WD Blue|Case: NZXT S340 Black|PCIe devices: TP-Link WDN4800| Montior: ASUS VE247H| Others: PS3/PS4

Somethings i would improve

1. Get a 1tb for like 5$ more

2.Drop down to a h97
3. Get an i5 4460
4. drop the cooler

5. unless you use the disk drive a lot, just don't bother,

6. drop cables as they'll come when you build the computer

why?

7. Get a R9 390/970 instead of a 960.

Your number 7 mark is not clear to me, I am not good with shorter titles for parts as i am as noobish. All the other marks seem clear to me cept for 5 why do i need to drop the cooler? the boxed cooler good enough? What will i sac in preformance from switching to the cheaper i5? (will this impact my gaming or wont I make intensive enough use out of my cpu to notice a massive difference?)

Same as the above "Lose the i7 for a i5 and a 390" What is a 390? is the mentioned i5 a good alternative? in your opinion?

I'd like to thank both of you for your quick replies :) and thanks for helping me out with some tips for my first pc build.

Don't worry dropping a i7 for a i5 won't make a difference for gaming a i7 is kind of pointless if you're just gaming. The R9 390 is a AMD GPU which is better than the 960 and would be a better choice
