HDMI audio not working

I feel like an idiot because I can not figure out what is wrong for the past two months I have had no audio(used headphones) but it bugs me that when i get tiered of the head phones the speakers on my monitor do not work?I have also tried on a complacently separate computer and display but there is no audio over the HDMI either but i know that it isn't the computer or the display?I think it is something in the settings but I don't know what? On both windows 8.1 and windows 10?

 

Monitor is an ASUS VG278HE
