Choosing THE Fan

Go to solution Solved by tomas710,

Are they silent? :-)

I'm not comfortable calling any fan silent. For me silent means passive cooling with no moving parts. They are pretty quiet, the blades are joined together as a ring which reduces turnbulence and focuses the airflow. I would advice that instead of looking for silence look for fans with a good noise profile, basically that the noise they make is barely noticeble. Decibels are not a fair measure of the sound profile of a fan. Take coil whine for example, it may be barely audible but still extremely annoying. If as quiet as possible operation is very important, i would go with either silverstone AP123s, Noctua NF-P12s or NB-eloops, this fans are designed to have a more pleasent noise profile by producing sound waves that cancel each other.

So im on hunt for new fans for my system as its getting a little bit to hot in the case. The case is a Corsair Carbide Air 540 and my cpu cooler is a Corsair H55 liquid cooler, cooling my 4690k. The plan was accually to get some fans which would look good in my case with a orange/black motherboard and a pure black gtx 780ti from msi, but i will still need some god damn completely silent fans which will always be able to move some air (at least more than the stock case fans from Corsair)

I have no certain budget (keep in mind that my motherboard is orange/black)

Im looking for 3x 120mm fans optimized for airflow and 1x 120mm optimized for static pressure, while being silent NOT QUIET but silent.

The companies i want fans chosen from is EK-WB, BeQuiet!, Noctua and Corsair, but im open for options :)

Thanks :)

Well for the 3x 120mm case fans for air flow I'd get 3, 120mm PMW BeQuite Silent Wing 2's, they will work great, they are silent, and they are black and orange :)

For the 120mm Static pressure optimized fan, I'm not sure of a really good quite one that will fit your build perfectly, but you could wait for the LTT Edition NF-F12's lol (Although no clue when they are actually coming..)

For the airflow fans, i would go with NF-P12s from noctua, they are older but they are still regarded as one of the best fans for quiet computing. For the other fan you can use a NF-F12, a vardar doesn't seem apropiate, it's a rad fan. Corsair is out if you seek silence. You may also consider AP123 from silverstone as the high sp fan, since they are VERY quiet and have focused airflow

Yes, they will look bad.  They match nothing.  But a clean build with great cable management can still look nice, even with Noctuas.  Check out my personal build log, I used a total of 7 Noctua fans in a white case:

Oh, well if you really don't want to mix brands then I'd have to advise noctua, just because you can get different types of fans for different needs, and they will all be the same brand with the same look, although it wont really look nice in your build.

I'd get NF-S12's for the airflow x3 if you want it to be absolutely silent, then for the rad fan I'd get a NF-F12

The NF-P12s are great too for the case fans, although I'd use them only if your case fans are restricted at all, because they are like the inbetween for airflow and static pressure.

Well, if you want it to match all you can do is wait for the LTT Noctua fans that will be orange and black.

Or chose another brand.

Also, shipping might be a problem.  They are based in Canada, but said they might ship from the US.  If so, shipping to Canada will cost a fortune.  If they ship from their new office, shipping to US will cost a fortune.  Shipping oversees will cost you a kidney.
