I want to buy a air 540 and in a review of it I noticed it did not have a air filter for the power supply and I'm wondering whether or not to buy a filter for the PSU. Is it really a problem will it affect my psi at all

dust will get into the fan bearings and create an annoying noise. happened to me before. even though i have a psu filter, i have a pretty dusty house since i have dogs and wood flooring.

i would recommend getting one because when i removed it after 2 weeks on the desk, i can say it was quite dusty

It'd be good to filter it if fan side down. You could mount it fan side up but that creates an exhaust that you should take into consideration when figuring out air pressure.
