Hello LinusTechTips Forum, first time posting, so tell me if I am missing something.

The random restarts began after I installed by Radeon Fury X. The screen goes blank, PC shuts down and immediately reboots. No Windows shutdown or restart screen appear. There are no error messages or logs after reboot.

The crash does not happen while I am playing a game, but rather when I am not playing.  So far, there is no consistency to when it restarts. Sometimes it happens while I am in queue for a League of Legends game, others when I am simply watching YouTube or Netflix.

My GPU and CPU temps are around 30 C when I am not playing games, so I doubt they are the cause.  I had 2 Sapphire Radeon HD 7970’s in my PC, so I believe I have enough power. I tried doing full reinstall of Windows, but the problem still persists.

My fear is that my motherboard and CPU or the Fury X may be the cause. Any ideas for isolating the problem is appreciated.

I would delete drivers then reinstall them off of the AMD website to see if that stops it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I luckily have my brothers computer to troubleshoot with.

1)  I will put his PSU into my computer.

2)  If it still crashes, I will put my GPU into his computer, to determine if it is CPU/MB (If it still crashes, I do not know whether to blame the GPU again, or AMD drivers).

3)  Assuming GPU works in my brothers computer, I will put my OS SSD into his computer and boot off of it for final test. To see it its software or SSD based. Hopefully, I will not get this far in my troubleshooting.

I was wondering if other components could cause the problem. I have a sound card and wireless card in my PCI slots as well.

having a look at the Specs for your CPU, it only supports PCIe 2.0 and not 3.0. Although the card should still support PCIE 2.0 (albeit at a lower speed), that might be the problem.

Intel i7-3820

PC: i7-3770k, GTX 670, 16gb 1600mhz, SSDs only, Corsair K70, Razer Deathadder, Windows 10.

unfortunately I found that the CPU's I can use to replace my CPU with cost $500+, so i will have to wait a couple of weeks to gather some cash. Could using the 3820 cause any damage to my GPU or MB?
