So im playing witcher 3 with my current set up being

  • core i5 750 2.66ghz processor with 3.2 ghz turbo boost
  • 8gb ram
  • r9 380 4gb
  • 5400 rpm hard drive.

Problem is i usually get low 50´s high´s 40 fps on high preset 1080p, but every now and then framerate drops like 20 fps and then goes right back where it was. What is happening? I dont think the cpu is bottlenecking because i do get 100% gpu usage... Welp

I think it's your hard drive.

how would a hdd contribute to low fps? and i would try to oc your chip a bit just like 3ghz flat and 3.4 boost

Some games just need faster hard drives to load stuff.

kinda makes sense I guess but that sounds kinda nuts but it is a 5400 lol needs an ssd or atleast a wd black :)
