I am looking for a 1440p IPS monitor, These two seem very similar but there is a $100 difference.

 

Am I missing something important between the two?

ASUS has better contrast ratio but BenQ has very slightly better response time and is brighter

ASUS has better contrast ratio but BenQ has very slightly better response time and is brighter

 

So why is the ASUS monitor $100 more? Just because of the brand name? Better panel quality?

Guess so but both companies have great panel quality, I would go with BenQ since it's so much cheaper

you can get a 144hz IPS 1440p for that money...   600$ asus mg279q

 

why would you pay the SAME money for a 60hz one....

 

This is all Australian Prices. An 144Hz 1440p IPS in AU is like $1000.

The ASUS uses a PLS panel. This is essentially the same as an IPS, but have more of the benefits of IPS (colour, contrast etc), but generally have more drawbacks typical to IPS panels (response time, etc).

I would personally go for the BenQ, unless you are doing professional work with it (colour management etc).

 

Edit: If you live near an MSY, then drop down there to see if they have what you need (MSY  are generally cheaper).
