Invalid Product Key/Activation

LennyIsLife

I took a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from an old Dell and put it on my new custom pc. I was aware that this would cause the product key to become invalid, but I had heard that you could get a new product key by using an automated phone service. However, all I can figure out how to do is to get a new product id to activate over the phone, and not a product key. Am I sol or does anyone know what to do?

AFAIK you cant reuse OEM keys or get a new one to use on your PC.

Just call Microsoft. They will fix it over the phone.

But its an OEM license I don't think they'll let you transfer it over to new PC

Worked for me. I even told them straight up that I just bought a new computer.

I think you built a computer, placed an OS, build a new one then transferred the OS. And I know that is possible.

What I think OP did, got an prebuilt Dell and wishes to transfer the OS that came with the Dell which I think is not possible.

@LennyIsLife am I correct in my assumption?

Yes, I don't think that is possible, but you should still try, no harm in doing so.

Oh I see! That might be the case yes since I built both of my computers.

Or rather, I built one computer and ran pirated windows on it, bought windows later and then transferred it.

That's why it was possible to transfer
