While playing Borderlands 2 with the screen set to the Nvidia Optimized for the Nvidia GTX 970 SC the side sliver of the screen was not rendering properly and there was a red tear on the right side that when in green rendering it pulled from the side of the screen to the left in a bar like fashion. When i tabbed out it went black screen and would not catch up and thus crash and become non-responsive and will stay full screen and unable to access task manager since it keeps the screen blacked out and difficult to do anything without shutting down the computer. I have a i7-4790k cpu and 16 gb 1600hz ram and a Z97-a mobo. I would like help to find out if this is a critical matter or not and what i can do to prevent it from happening again. Asus VG248QE 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor is the one that it happened to with dual screen of ASUS VN247H-P 23.6-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor.

Try a restart, sometimes a small glitch can cause things to malfunction.

 

Have you updated the 970's driver recently?  That could be the issue.  Backdate the driver to the last stable version you remember.
