No you have to use a 8pin EPS cable or a 4+4 Pin EPS cable. It has to be a EPS cable.

Also if you get a new motherboard it is going to go to bios and you will need to do fresh install of windows, which will force you to format your drives

Assuming you are using the same hard drives, once they re-selected as the boot devices in the Bios or if they are auto detected as boot drives it should boot into your current Windows system. It will tell you on blank screen that there were hardware changes and you access the bios through that if I'm not mistaken. You may experience problems with this though and it is always recommend that you do a clean install of Windows. You will however have to reactivate your windows license.

As for the PSU connectors you MUST use the one labelled for "CPU", in most modern PSU's that are used in custom builds there should be a 4+4 pin connector for the CPU. So two pieces of plastic that are naturally separated but will go side by side in the socket on the motherboard, each plastic connector will have 4 pins on it.

ok because my board now has only a 4 pin connector there and there is another 4 pin right beside it on the same wire

What motherboard?

SO if I understand correctly, your mobo requires a 4 pin connector and you have what is a CPU 4+4 pin connector.

yes only one of the 4 pin connectors plugs in

Then that is all you need. If there is only one 4 pin slot on the board then it only requires the one 4pin cable the other attached 4pin connector is extra in this case. On larger motherboards/cpus they require this extra 4pin on the cable.
