This is something that my friends asked me about, he's got a laptop and it has a 740-QM model CPU but he's noticed it is running at 1.86 GHz which is the speed of the 840-QM he's not messed around with any of the settings on the CPU but it's running at that speed when it's meant to be running at 1.73 GHz any ideas whats causing this?

Technology is a curse... why? Because it's so addictive.

Hello there! Most Intel CPUs have a Turbo Boost function. When the CPU is put under load, it automatically increases the clock speed for faster performance! When the CPU is idle, it can lower its clock speed to reduce power consumption. The i7 740QM has a maximum boost frequency of 2.93Ghz, so your CPU is doing exactly what it should be doing and is still running within its specifications.

Let me know if you have any more questions!!
