About to side load Ubuntu

What are some things as a linux noob i should know or do going into this?


Main OS on drive C= 7 home premium 64 bit
Second OS on 80 Gig partition- Ubuntu 15 64 bit


 

CPU: i7 6700k @4.5GHZ | Mobo: MSI Z170 Gaming M5 | RAM: G Skill Rip Jaws V- 16GB | GPU: Sapphire RX 5700 XT | Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM, Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM, Kingston SSD-now 100V+ 128GB, WD Black 600GB, WD Blue 500GB, Intel 600p 256GB nvme SSD |PSU:Corsair CX750M| Cooling: Corsair H60| Displays: 27" LG IPS277L, Samsung Curved 72hz Freesync 27 inch, Epson EX7220 Projector with 100 inch 16:10 Screen | Kb: Corsair Vengeance K70 | Mouse: R.A.T. 4 |  Case:  NZXT Phantom 410 (Red) | OS: Win 10 Home 64 Bit

You should know some basic commands via the terminal at the very least.

Like what? also is Chrome OS free to install on one of many slave drives as well. Dont know why but im in the mood to mess around with different OS until 10 comes out.

learn to use apt-get (it's easy), the rest will come using it. In general the template is <program -command path>

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Realise that Windows is better and to not bother with Linux.

 

But if you are really keen on using Ubuntu check on forums and google for hardware compatibility.

 

You should also use a Virtual machine if you are just looking to play with multiple OS's. https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/7_0

Simply knowing how to update your packages and install new ones is enough to start and tinker around with the os. Check this video out on how to do it (I would suggest you skip Point 2 and 3 since flash isn't necessary anymore and Ubunutu One is mehhh).

You want to be able to learn "sudo apt-get install" and things like that. Don't worry, it isn't hard to learn and just using Linux or exploring the Ubuntu community will seriously teach you a lot in a small amount of time.

IM on it right now overall user experience wise its nice. Feeling like getting my 760 drivers on and seeing how she games.

Uhm you know how you hold down mouse wheel and drag to scroll. That doesnt work in ubuntu? UHm, anything similar or can you set that up?
