Hi,

Welcome to the forums.

I would ask what are your temperatures ?

If a device is old or showing bad temperatures then replacing thermal compound is an option but if the original TIM (thermal interface material) is still working fine you may only see a couple of degrees improvement.

Secondly you may want to try canned air to blow out the heatsink area to remove any dust build up. The tell tail sign will be the fan kicking in early and ramping up loud quickly.

Your model is old enough that opening is not too difficult, search for samsung NP-QX411 disassembly guide.

You will need :

Patience

Set of small screwdrivers

Spudger or an old credit card / loyalty card for running around the edges to release the clips

Sensible place to work

PArts box for screws and HDD ( I use Tupperware containers  )

For removing TIM you can get TIM cleaner but I have used 99% pure alcohol at a pinch then replace the thermal compound and put the heatsink back on tightening diagonally opposite screws to get correct pressure on the CPU (ie when the screws go down hand tight).

If you need any further help please let us know

Regards

Ed
