Ultrawide VS 1440p

shong96

Hello, I am currently looking for an upgrade for my Monitor at a budget of $400 as I will be getting the new GTX980 Ti soon. I am currently using a 1080p Monitor. I am contemplating between the Acer K272HUL or LG 29UM55.

LG 29UM55 - http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-29UM55-P-ultrawide-monitor#

Which monitor setup should I go for? If you have any other recommendations please comment below. Thanks so much for your help.

Higher pixel density and overall more pixels on the 1440p monitor, I don't see a reason to go for ultrawide in your case. A 980ti should not have issues driving 1440p either, and you don't run into issues when a game doesn't properly support 21:9. Not to mention that 1080 vertical pixels is just barely enough, whereas 1440 makes it way more pleasant to use.

1440p has more pixels. Go for 1440p.

21:9

but if i were you id get a 970 for half the price of that video card and have the money to get a GOOD monitor... you know, since monitor is the most important part and you`ll go through 10 video cards before you change your monitor

What monitor would you recommend for a 970 under $450 and what monitor for a 980ti under $600. That would help answer his question while giving a nod to your recommendation.

Monitor is far more important than any other part.

I wouldnt spend money on any monitor this year besides these (which one is in the price range):

LG 29um67 - 29inch, IPS, 2560x1080, 75hz, freesync
LG 34um67 - 34inch, IPS, 2560x1080, 75hz, freesync

Acer z35 - 35inch, VA, 2560x1080, 144hz, gsync
Benq xr3501 - 35inch, VA, 2560x1080, 144hz, no?-sync

Asus pg34q - 34inch, IPS, 3440x1440, 75hz, gsync
Acer x34 - 34inch, IPS, 3440x1440, 100hz, gsync

And get an single 970 or 290 (and nothing more expensive) to power the free/gsync accordingly.
