It is possible i have done it and used normal spray paint, just be really carful and take the entire heat spreader off so that you dont risk getting any paint on the pcb. Also as in my case the heat spreader did not go back on the way it came off and ended up looking bad, but still works with no temp issues or anything just be carful!

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

If you don't want to take off the heat spreaders you can make mask it very well and spray them I don't usually recommend brushing since you will see brush strokes very easily. For paint you can use spray paint be sure to remove the stickers first and clean the surface before hand. If your looking for white try looking for automotive paints, Duplicolor is a good choice.

Alternatively you can also use plasti-dip on RAM which is a removal rubber coating. Just be sure to make cut lines before removing any masking since it can pull up surrounding plasti-dip.
