So with the rollout of windows 10 coming out soon and it being free for windows 7 and 8 users my main question is:

Would the experience be greatly enchanced if you were using a touchscreen?

Now if it is, what is the best solution to this? A dedicated touch screen monitor? Or would an idea of having a smaller duplicated display accompanied by a normal display work good as well? Where can someone acquire this type of panel? Recommendations?

IMO, better than 8/8.1, around equal to 7.

With the desktop stuff returning with 10, I'd say that you'd be fine with a keyboard and mouse alone.

I like my keyboard and mouse. I don't think I'd like a touchscreen monitor for my desktop and that'd be really awkward to use anyways.

It seems pretty good IMO, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna upgrade or not, or if I upgrade whether or not I'll do a fresh install.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

I like the looks of most of it... but, I hate the fact that (unless I missed something) you can't refuse updates on the normal home version of it, the thought of not being able to refuse an update that breaks everything, but wasn't tested enough sends chills down my spine...

Ah seems like the touch screen experience isn't very favourable..

I mean considering you're on a tech forum, the majority of the people here probably favor a keyboard and mouse. I'm sure there's many people out there though that enjoy the touch experience.

I used the tech preview from the day it was released to the public up until I got tired of it and went back to 7. From using it exclusively for a few months, I came to the conclusion that I like it better than 8 or 8.1 but I still prefer the look and the performance of 7. I used 8.1 before I went to 10 TP and 10 was an improvement. I didn't like cortana but the start menu looked nice and worked well, better than start8. Clover file explorer doesn't look consistent with Windows 10 unfortunately. It will probably be updated by the time 10 is released.

Also, SLI was a pain to get working early on and later on I had to kill off some windows functions in the task manager to get it working.

I think microsoft is allowing you to downgrade somehow...but don't quote me on that.

In terms of performance though - keep in mind this is a technical preview. I'm sure performance will be better at it's actual release.

July 29th (or somewhere around there) is the release date of the official version of Windows 10, not the technical preview. But right now - at least to my knowledge - the version available is still a technical preview.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the official version before i hop on the boat! Hopefully I'll be able to hop off if it's not a great experience..
