X99S, black screen memory problem?

Go to solution Solved by runit3,

The problem is no longer an issue just curious what caused it. Can it be that the RAM is 2666mhz and the 5820k only supports 2133 without xmp

Very doubtful, as the RAM would have loaded JEDEC defaults on first boot. My best guess is that one of the pre-POST checks failed in some way. X99 boards (at least all the ones I've used) run through a series of pre-checks on the RAM, could have just been a fluke and hung on one. As the X99S has no code readout it would be pretty hard to diagnose, and since everything is working fine now, not much point in trying to replicate it.

Hello there! :)

i just finished my x99 build, and i allmost shit myself when i was done and pressed the power button.

The system booted on no problem, but there was nothing showing up on the monitor, after 30min of troubleshooting i took out all my ram modules and inserted them one by one and powered on.

When i booted with only one ram module it actually booted and i got the MSI logo on my monitor.

same with the second, third, and fourth.

What can have caused it not to boot? and WTH?

Every ram module was where it was supposed to be according to the MSI user manual.

There aren't many people on the forum that I know using this board, so getting help for it specifically might be tricky. If your PC runs fine with every RAM module on its own then it must be RAM related. What type of RAM do you have? Is it certified for your board? Are you running XMP?

All the RAM sticks work, i just had to remove all but One. Then boot and then put them all in again for it to work.

Does all the RAM report correctly in POST, or do you not even get that far?

If each stick works correctly, I actually would consider it being either a MOBO or RAM problem.

Cant multiquote on mobile.. Answer above
