I'm buying my PC VERY soon, and before I enter the store like a tool I want to make sure everything is compatible and the right choice.

-Intel Core i7-4790k

-Gigabyte Z97-HD3

-Western Digital 1TB (Is it a reliable manufacturer?)

-Aerocool DS 200

-Corsair VS650 650W

-(Should I go with LG or ASUS as my optical drive?)

-Kingston SSD 60GB

-Corsair H100i CPU Cooler

-Galax GeForce GTX 970 4GB

-16GB Corsair RAM (2 x 8GB)

I plan on running SLI when christmas comes and I also have intentions of over clocking the hell out of everything. I am going to be doing intensive editing and gaming, I went with the 4790k since I have the money and I want better tech than my mates :3  So any suggestions or problems would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you really need the i7's hyperthreading? Because i'd get the i5-4690k instead and get a more powerful GPU.

You can OC the 4690k to 4.2-4.4 GHZ easily. you get no benefit with the i7 for gaming.

If I get the i5-4690k, would i need the Corsair cooler if I overclock? And what GPU would you get instead?

Your best option for CPU Cooler is a Corsair All-in-One Watercooling kit or Air coooling with heatsink

If you go with AIO cooler, I suggest you a dual 120mm fans (240mm Radiator) or 140mm (280mm Radiotar)

If you go Air cooling, Get the Noctua NH-D14 or NH-D15. Same performance of the Liquid cooling.

The only thing to replace is the fan on air cooler, which takes 5 years+ before replacing. The heatsink will always be good. its a piece of metal, wont break.

For water cooling, you have more breaking points, the pump, hoses, leak, etc.. also the fans. if the pump break, you have to replace the entire unit.

You ask if Western Digital (arguably the best storage company) is good? The build looks ok from what I see anyways.
