So I'm looking at upgrading my monitor in the future but want some advice first. So I want to know what is better. Freesync or g-sync. i know if running nvidia i need g-sync and when running amd I use freesync but the thing is I want to upgrade my gpu aswell cause i have to. Here is my specs

AMD r9 280x crossfire

4790k @ 4.6GHz

qnix qx2710 2560x1440 @ 96hz

So I just want to start planning for when I need to upgrade in the future cause this might be one expensive upgrade. the problem is my monitor only comes with dual-link dvi and I would need a active dispalyport to dual link dvi and to get such an adapter will be expensive here in South Africa. I'm seeing the new radeon cards according to rumors already ditching Displayport so I suspect the next generation might also skip DVI for the higher end cards.

I want to be prepared for when I need to upgrade so I can get the right gpu. Then I have another problem and I don't like the way it's going. If I go G-sync then I basically belongs to Nvidia if you know what i mean cause i would sort of be forced to use Nvidia cards from now on. So what do I do? Give me some suggestions and i would like to stay on 2560x1440 resolution @ igher refresh rate than 60hz. for me this is one tough question and my thoughts is that Nvidia is a bunch of greedy people just trying to get there hands on everyone but i can also understand why they keep this locked down. It's to have more control over it and thus better support while giving you the best they can until they further improved it.

So what should I do? what is your suggestion

This isn't really a valid question since its amd vs nvidia, whoevers cards you have will make your decision. You can either go for one of BenQ's free sync monitors of the Asus G-Sync monitors, both of which Linus has reviewed. So take your pick.

Yes I know but I heard about the ghosting on freesync monitors and not on g-sync monitors but is it true or not. You know people can fake stuff so much these days.

I would say that that is not really a thing, it depends on the specific monitor company to effectively reduce ghosting, I know that on Asuss g-sync rog monitor they have a mode that eliminates ghosting because it flashes the backlight, but it's limited to 75 htz and there's no g-sync support during that mode.

according to here you cant run ULMB and g-sync at the same time

So that feature is out of the way cause if I'm buying it to do that then I will look into non g-sync if you get a 1440p monitor like that. and if you use ulmb it's only active at 120hz.
