GTA V on old PC?

Hello! I just built my friend a PC out of parts I got for free from family and friends. The specs are as follows:

Intel i7 920 @stock (no aftermarket cooler)

ASUS P6T (motherboard)

6GB triple channel DDR3

HD 5570 1GB (we have a HD 4670 512MB if it would be better suited)

650w Antec EarthWatts

1TB Seagate Barracuda

PCIe wi-fi Card.

 

He was wondering if he would be able to run GTA V on the LOWEST settings possible at 720p (or lower if ABSOLUTELY necessary. He doesn't care if he can run it at over 30, he just doesn't want it to drop below very often.

New gpu and he should be able to tbh... My 650ti with 1GB of vram ran it... i7 920s honestly aren't that weak, just a bit dated...

You might JUST scrape by.

min card is AMD HD 4870  ..i dunno if the card you have is over that . i know when it comes to nvidia just cause the number is bigger doesnt mean its better. I dunno how it works for AMD

I don't think you have enough VRAM to run GTA, even at low settings. Everything else seems fine. If he can pick up a 750ti, I think he could run it at low-medium settings at best.

Yeah I'm not at all worried about the proc, it's more than capable (especially if he got a good cooler and OC'd it). And he's planning on getting a 970 in August, but he'd love to play it now.

Theres a mod for gta5 that lets it run on older machines by downgrading everything, dunno if its still worth playing like that but here.

The cpu might need a healthy overclock. I came from an overclocked i5 750 (pretty much similar performance as the 920) and I saw improvements in almost every game. Considering that in some parts of the the game, I actually hit 99-100% load on my cpu makes it even more necessary to overclock that cpu. On the other hand, I don't know how the 5570 will perform, but the 4670, having owned one myself, is about half as fast as the 9800gt/8800gt, probably won't play it that well if at all.

I ran GTA4 on a 250 GTS and it still looked better then either console and ran smoother.
