Attempting to revive 2 HDD's

mattviapc

Ive got 2 HDD's (both 2.5 inch) laying around and im trying to get my pc to boot with either one of them attached to use one of them in a laptop but both are having issues:

WD Scorpio Blue (when booting up pc the hdd keeps turning off and on: pc never turns on)

Seagate Momentus (goes into booting windows and never finishes)

Keep in mind I still have my sdd added that is my primary boot.

Thanks

Plug them in after you're in windows, see what happens. Have them plugged into the PSU, but not the SATA port. You're not "supposed" to do that, but in situations like this its ok.

When doing so what should I look out for or notice?

The Problem could be a corrupted MBR.

To Repair it,

Boot windows first, Then attach one of the drives, Right click Computer and click "Manage", Go to disk manager, Right click the drive on the right, and convert to GPT, when complete, Right click and Convert back To MBR.

Then partition as you please.

Then repeat with the second drive.

If any clicking, Churning or Poping sounds coming from the drive or the bios takes more time than usal to detect them, It could be the Logic board on the under side of the drive, These can be replaced but are more hassle than there worth, (Only if you need to recover important information off the drives)

Other wise its cheaper to buy a new drive.
