Second gtx 980 not recognized

Just recently installed a 2nd 980, but for some reason device manager is not recognizing that a 2nd card exists. ASROCK's UEFI bios recognizes both cards are there, but only one shows up in device manager.

 

I reinstalled drivers, tried updating BIOS, nothing. Tried in reverse, nothing.

nope, nothing there, no options for sli just surround and physx

same thing, the 2nd isn't recognized

i should also mention, both cards are installed in correct slots according to mobo manual, 2 and 4, and card is powered on, fans spin, lights are on

If you connect your monitor to the second card, does it show something?

If not, make sure, it's seated correctly and that its getting power.

Also try the other 16x slot if the above doesn't help.

the other x16 slot is 4x only, tried reversing the 2 cards again. I had the msi one as the main one at first, switching the 2 around, it still says in gpu-z that the subvendor is msi even though the evga one is in the top slot, hdmi plugged into it to monitor. switching hdmi to 2nd card (msi), monitor gets no signal from it

completely uninstalled drivers, put just the evga card in, reinstalled drivers. gpu-z is now showing the correct info

And now the pc won't boot no matter what i do, just post code 00

Clear cmos got the pc to boot, phew, now back to the sli

Do you have another SLI Bridge that you can try? 

I would try that, as well as different PCIe slots on the mobo.

the only two 8x slots are pcie2 and pcie4, which i have them in. I do have another sli bridge coming in, the one my mobo came with was solid, needed flexible

oddly enough the bottom one allows device manager to recognize the bottom card but sli does not show up in nvidia control panel, but it does recognize there is a card there. As i suspected, the bottom slot is 4x only
