Hey everyone!

I've been spending a lot of my spare time builing my first PC. It's finally finished but i'm still considering some changes to the air cooling in my system. I don't know if i'm cooling my system properly at the moment and I would like some advice, tips, or anything else that can help me improve my cooling.

I will sum up my system specs before I continue:

CPU: I5 4690K (stock)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97 gaming 5
GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX 960 4GB
RAM: 16GB HyperX Fury
PSU: Cooler Master G750M (750W)
Case: Corsair Carbide Spec-01
SSD: Kingston HyperX 120GB
Hard drive: 500GB Western Digital

This is a picture of my system at the moment:

To cool my system I use 4 120mm case fans. 2 for intake, 2 for exhaust. I also have a tower cooler for my CPU with a 80mm fan.

- My 2 intake fans are placed in the front of the case.

- For exhausing hot air, I placed one fan at the top of the case, and one at the back of the case

- My CPU cooling tower blows hot air directly into the exhausting fan at the top.

My fans are all spinning at a certain speed (defined by my Mobo's BIOS). The speeds increase as the temperature rises:

- 2 intakes: 2,50 PWM / °C (maximum manual speed)

- 2 exhausts: 1,00 PWM / °C

- CPU tower: 2,50 PWM / °C

The idle system temperatures are:

- Case: 35 °C / 38°C / 28°C (sensors on Mobo)

- CPU: 35-37 °C

- GPU: 50-55 °C (in silent mode)

I try to get a bit of positive pressure in my case to keep the dust out, but I don't know if this is the best solution. I used to have a more negative pressure but I noticed dust getting into my system (while the intake is filtered)...

So, this is my situation at the moment. I'm trying to get the cooling as optimal as possible, that's why I want your opinion so I can make some changes when necessary!

Note: I still have 1 120mm fan lying around and a spot at the top of my case. Could it be beneficial to place this fan at the top as a third, extra exhaust?

Thanks in advance!

What is your full load temps?

Under full load my temperatures fluctuate around these numbers:

- CPU: 59-65°C

- GPU: 62-66°C

- System: 45 °C / 48°C / 35°C

Those temps are fine.

So no need to add a 3rd exhaust fan in the top spot?

If you have more fans out than in, there will be more dust buildup. So if I were you I would leave it as it is now.

Okay! Thanks for helping! :)

~snip~

Hey Peejay,

The temps are well within the recommended operation ranges. You shouldn't have problems with it. I would just recommend to often check for accumulating dust inside the case and monitor the temperatures to see if they start increasing over time. Other than that you should be fine. :) That's a great build!
