mobile data plan in Canada

So I will be flying to Canada in about a week and since I will stay there for about  three months, I was thinking about getting a phone plan or something similar to be able to call home to Germany, use WhatsApp, text....well the usual stuff.

Kinda seems though like phone plans in Canada are stupidly expensive. No offense to you Canadians. ;-)

 

Anyways, I was hoping for some advice on where to look for a phone plan/ data plan. A mobile stick for my Laptop would be fine as well. I just don't want to spend toooo much on it, since money is kinda tight.
