Hi everyone

I'm looking to build a media server PC to be placed in my bed room i'll looking for suggestions.

I have a fair idea of what i need but i have no idea what parts will draw the least power from the wall as i want be able to leave the PC on so i can access it at anytime from anywhere

i was looking at something like a G3250 and a Gigabyte H97M-HD3  to go with a 8GB  ram and then i wish to put in 1 SSD for boot and 4 WD red 4/5tb's configured into 2 sets of raid 1

i'm still unsure on what PSU i'll need for this setup so if anyone can push me in the right direction with that i would greatly appreciate it .

if anyone has any suggestions on a more power efficient (and lower heat output) set up let me know

i don't need a case as i'm building a cabinet for it all to go in.

i will put a build log once I've finished the build

and no i'm not on a budget but i would like to keep the price of the build down because here in Australia we pay way to much for parts as it is

When it comes to power draw from the wall and picking a PSU, this is where the 80+ rating actually matters.  A gold or platinum PSU is probably where you want to go.  A system like that isn't going to need a lot of power, a 450W PSU will do just fine.

Lastly, for picking the actual PSU, some good brands are Corsair, XFX, and EVGA.  If you really want to g for the best check out the tier list http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Fractal Design Define R5 | i7-4790k | Corsair H80 | Asus Z97-Pro WiFi | 2 x EVGA GTX 970 SSC+ | 16GB G.Skill Sniper@1866MHz | Samsung 840 Evo 256 GB | 1TB + 750GB drives | EVGA 750W G2 | 27" BenQ IPS 1440p@60Hz | Windows 10

Hey Aussie Pawz,

You should be fine with a 400W - 450W PSU, and as @yippy3000 pointed out, the 80+ rating would really matter.
I would suggest considering a different type of RAID if you are looking for more secure redundancy. having 4 drives in two separate RAID1 arrays would enable you to use only two of them while the other two will be used for redundancy with no speed gain. I would suggest considering RAID6 or RAID10 as both of them also use two drives the redundancy, but provide a significant read/write speed boost. :)
Good choice on the WD red drives.
