MICROPHONES MUFFLED|Not Working

So I haven't had the chance to use a my microphone on my new computer that i built 2-3 weeks ago. Well today i grabbed a spare mic plugged it into my computer and the sound was PERFECT! But... the microphone was not working. I used the skype test call to record a message. When i listened to it i could hear myself but only if u turned up my volume pretty high also my voice was all muffled... 

I have tried 2 different mics both have the same effects. 

Any ideas?
