Like the title says it is my first build, and I was wondering if it is good. I plan to play Battlefield, Dayz, Stranded Deep, Rust, Minecraft, CS:GO, and some others. Am I going overkill? Forgetting something? I would be extremely grateful for any advice! This is what I plan to buy and build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mNCf4D .

A. Not bad

B. Will you EVER end up using the optical drive?

C. Your TDP for that build is only ~400 Watts, but you have a 750 Watt PSU? Maybe step it down to 500, 550, or 600?

D. Do you really need that sound card?  That money would be better spent on a better GPU in my opinion, unless you need that sound card for a work application.

NOTE: I am working on my first build.  All this info comes from the months upon months upon months of research I've done, not my PC building experience (or lack therof).

That looks like a pretty nice build!  However, you should probably add an SSD to put your key applications and OS on, makes booting time a lot faster!  I recommend a 120GB or 250GB for this build.

Currently roaming the forums in boredom

I like mice and keyboards and the sort

A. Thank you

B. Yes for the OS. Is that okay?

C.Is that overkill?

D.Should I not get it? Will my onboard audio be good enough?

Oh and also what would be the greatest benefit of a SSD. I heard they just speed up the boot up time. And last but not least my budget is nothing over 1200$

Using the Drive is just fine.  I just wasn't sure what you were going to use it for.

There is evidence that having extra wattage will decrease PSU efficiency

I find the onboard audio to almost always be enough.  However, if it is something you really want, it's not a bad choice.

I have a similar build. A 550w quality psu is fine for yours.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0550v1. Would that be an okay PSU? If you guys know anyway to get under $1000, it would be extremely awesome.

Ya that will work. I would also change the Hard drive from Seagate to WD. Seagate drives have the highest fail rate.

It makes me so happy to see someone post a parts list for there first build and not manage to royally screw it up.

Also a 750 watt psu for that build is more then you need but lands you with better efficiency.

Okay then I guess that is all I needed to know. Thank you lots everyone. I will change to WD their "blue" one seems popular. Also once again if anyone can think of a way I can lower my price but still play the games I want,  it would be wonderful.

Well I didn't lower the price, but you get better performance with a 280X, a 1TB WD Blue, a motherboard that will accept a second 280X (if you chose to get another later on) running in 8x, 8x, with a power supply that will support it and 150 extra watts for overclocking headroom. And better case fans for cheaper (corsair looks sexy but performs terribly for cooling and your wallet).

Oh and I cut out all the stuff that's pointless but if you want you can really just add it later, except for the optical drive no one uses them anymore, and they limit your case options like the S340.

I edited a few things things, organized some stuff, and took some advice. Is this still an okay build. Or should I stick with the original. The new build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mtQCcf. Or the original: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4gQCcf .

I just thought about using a Nvidia 970 GPU instead because they do not get as hot as an AMD GPU. Should I go for one of those? If so which brand; I heard MSI Twin Frozr makes pretty good cooling.

It could still go a ways, here are my sugestions

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Rm7Dyc

Thermal compound- your cooler comes with that high end stuff will only change your temps 4 degrees at most.

Mother board- 20$ gets you a board with more features.

Ram- Its to high for your cooler it wont fit

Case- looks better still has great build quality

Power supply- 750w means better efficiency and crossfire possibilities for latter.

Optical drive- who uses them anymore

Sound Card- onboard audio is a thing all your buying is the placebo effect

Fans- Noctua is overpriced the ones I chose have more airflow and are quieter

Everything else looks great

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Bm9qJx. I am a little iffy about AMD cards. Sure the price is great and the performance, but I heard they get really hot. Is it truly a big issue?

Really the reference cooled ones get hot but AMD rates them to as to hot being 90-95 degrees celsius, and the ones with non reference coolers stay way below that, also look at the airflow rating on the fans in the list you have, it's around 175 CFM coming in and 150 going out. That is more than enough.

May I ask why you need a optical drive?

Here is my latest updated parts list.

I like your build a lot. Also thank you for being so helpful. The reason I am "opting" *ba dum tss* for a drive is because my friend said software is usually on a disc. I know a lot of it able to be downloaded. Also I have lots of movies that are on disc. What is your opinion?

If you intend on watching movies then yes get it but if not you don't really need one.
