I used libreoffice all through college. Worked fine and didn't conflict with any college applications or essay submissions

For (college) students I think this is a pretty good deal ;)

$80 is a lot when you're paying for rent, utilities, tuition, books, and food without parental financial support lol

True, but for basicaly $1,67 per month you also get 60 Skype minutes and a 20GB Skydrive ;)

For those who don't know, LibraOffice is the new incarnation of OpenOffice ;)

Other options include googledocs! Great for making notes and archiving them, and no need to worry about backups!

What i want is a free office program, but also something that i wont have a lot of hassle with, like document compatibility with other programs but also something that i will use offline when i dont have any internet connection. Open office and libre office seem like very good choices, any difference between them?

Like I said, LibreOffice is the same as OpenOffice but more updated.

Though personally I don't ever use word processors, If anything I write needs to be neatly formatted I mark it up and compile with LaTeX
