Won't recognize graphics card

Whenever I load up a driver for a graphics card all that pops up is intel graphics I can't use the driver cd because I don't have an optical drive and I just feel stupid.

CPU i5-4690k Motherboard asrock h97-ac RAM 2x4 Crucial Sport GPU Msi 4g gtx 970 Case Silverstone sg13b-q Storage western digital scorpio black 500gb PSU csm 450w Display(s) acerh27hl bmid Cooling intel stock cooler Yeah I know right Keyboard I'd rather not say Mouse logitech g602 Sound beyerdynamic dt990pro Operating System windows 8.1

What graphics card + motherboard?

 

Using device manager, can you see that the computer recognizes that it's physically installed?

 

If so, does it say it has no driver, or no?

 

"All that pops up" meaning where?

msi 4g gaming gtx 970 and an asrock h97 and no it doesn't recognize it on display adapters that's where only intel graphics pops up

Ok in that case make sure that it is installed properly into the pci express slot ie all the way in with a click and make sure that if it requires any supplemental power that those connectors are plugged in.
