Hello everyone,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad, but its now 5 years old (Still running windows xp).

I am trying to boot it up, because I REALLY need to get a program running, I must be able to back it up, because it's very crucial data...

I can boot the laptop up in safe mode, but the program won't start up in safe mode...

What are my options?

Please help

Greetings Reds Duty

UPDATE 1:

I can also boot into safe mode with command prompt

UPDATE 2:

It's always stuck on the windows xp boot logo

Currently rocking a crappy 550$ toshiba laptop without a dedicated graphics card.

So... I'm looking forward to building my very first pc!

Could be that in normal startup a program is preventing/intervening with the startup. Go in safe mode and try and remove all programs from startup.

I have this program with a database in it, and I need to be able to access that program to be able to export the data base so I can import it on my new pc...

Oh right, what is the program? Because, there might be ways around it, such as getting the saved database (from the broken one) and then you loading that save onto a Windows XP Virtual Machine, you just put the program on the virtual machine and get that save and put it on the virtual machine?

It's an audiology program

I use the "Noah" software from the company Himsa...

There is really no community around it, and I found no information on how to back it up other then from within the program

Already thanks for your help!

EDIT 1: The error number it gives is 50175

No problem, I guess there is only 2 options....

Get your XP to work somehow, or export the data onto another machine/virtual machine. Whichever you want to do. Personally I would to the second one and give that a go because trying to fix an OS that does not boot is a bi*ch.

Then again, looking at this: http://www.himsa.com/Support/Noah4Knowledgebase/InstallationGuidelines/Noah4andMicrosoftSQLServer/MigrateNOAH3SQLtonewNoah4SQLPC/tabid/3681/language/en-US/Default.aspx

It looks like you cannot really just "copy and paste" your database to another computer.

Soooooo... when you boot XP (non safe-mode) what happens?! Is it just a black screen for ages or what?

It's just the windows xp loading screen for ever...

I really don't get why they made it so hard to recover a database from safe mode...

Yeah, seems kinda stupid. Unless it is because of some sort of security things.

Urmmmmm ok.... so...

Go into safemode and go to "msconfig" then you want to go to "BOOT.INI" and then select  "/NOGUIBOOT". Then restart, and DONT go into safemode and it should give you a list of drivers it is loading, then you can see which driver is stuck on and then we can go from there

Trying, in the meanwhile installing virtual machine..

EDIT 1: in the beginning it always says: media test failure: check cable!

EDIT 2: Seems like I only get a black screen now...

Hmmmmm, could be because of the HDD, have you got the Windows XP Installation disk? Or can you burn a copy - or put one on a USB? Because with that you can either repair, or I think you can boot from the last good version of Windows.

I tried to boot from the last good version of windows, and it indeed could be my hard drive... I have just bought a new laptop hoping I was in time, but now I see I wasn't...

I'm going to try using the virtual box and otherwise it's too bad i guess...  :(

Thanks for your help...
