MX-4 vs. IC Diamond

Go to solution Solved by brokencross,

Never ever use diamond paste. It ruins the IHS and the heatsink base.

Go for the MX-4.

Greetings, friends

After a very long time I reached the state of having NO thermal compound at my disposal (weird, right?). And I was wondering between these two - MX-4 and IC Diamond.

Currently on my CPU I have the Kraken X61 and compound is MX-4. Should I buy the MX-4 or IC Diamond for future use? Is there a marginal difference in temps, or are they roughly the same?

Prices are roughly the same here, 7€ for the MX-4 and 10€ for the IC Diamond 7-Carat syringe.

So, thoughts? suggestions?

thanks :P

Yeah, I heard that the diamond particles, albeit very small, scratch the surface :( Shame for such a high-quality compound

Yeah. Although "scratches" is putting it lightly. It actually creates micro craters on the IHS and the heatsink.
