Hey guys! So im new to this forum. Wanted to learn more about Computer building. Ive been watching tutorials (linustechtips) just researching in general. I have a MacBook Pro, and i realized how shit it is compared to building my own. I just wanted your 2 cents on this build :)

 

heres my build

 

CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

 

COOLER - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO PURCHASED

 

MOTHERBOARD - MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

 

RAM - Kingston Fury Red Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

 

STORAGE - Sandisk Solid State Drive 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

                   

                    Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

 

VIDEO CARD - Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card

 

CASE - BitFenix Comrade PURCHASED

 

POWER SUPPLY - EVGA 120-G1-0650-XR PURCHASED

 

 

I just want to play any games at high settings. Is this good?

Do you really need 16GB of ram? @1600. Good build!

 

I dont know the difference. is 1600 bad? im going with 1866 like the user above said :)

I just want to play any games at high settings. Is this good?

Looks pretty good. Just that if you don't do any video rendering and stuff, you could pick up the i5 4690K as accordingly to 1 of the video from LTT, the performance between i7 and i5 are almost, if not the same (in terms of fps). So no point spending extra cash when you don't really see any improvement. Might as well keep the extra cash or spend it to upgrade on other thing in your PC.

Actually, I think between 1600MHz and 1866MHz, you can only see the different on paper and not irl when it comes to gaming. At least that's what I think. :P

I remember I asked once before (not sure here or elsewhere). The answer was the best I could imagine. "just get the cheapest 1 or the one that fits to your color scheme if you had one".
