I have a problem with a 40 inch Samsung LCD TV.

It turns on, I get sound, but no color, it is emiting light, just all black.

I can see the backlight or whatever turn on but there is no color the the picture, tried all different inputs, HDMI, VGI Composite. All the same sound, and light, but no color.

Have you tried connecting it to a different device i.e. another computer, cable box?

Try this:

Go into the "service menu" using the remote and look for the "DDR" option and change it to "Samsung"

To find out how to get into the service menu go here: http://factory-reset.com/wiki/Samsung_Service_Menu and find what button combo you need to do for your tv (the service menu is NOT the normal menu).

If that doesn't work then it will probably need to be RMA'd

Problem is it just ran out of warranty.

That is the beauty of a warranty period manufactures know how long their products last before they will fail.

Thats just samsung quality also, and the reason i don't buy their screens anymore.

Probably a cap died if this the case might be easy and cheap fix.

How would I check for that, and sounds like I would need a soldering iron, which I don't have.

You could investigate on your own, then if indeed the case you should see some bad caps then just send it to a repair center.

Or you could buy new tv tough i would avoid anything from samsung this time.

Well I didn't buy the first one, and I was only looking to fix this one so I could have one in my room, but not worth all that hassle.
