Hi all, I'm new to the forum so please go easy on me.

I'm trying to build the best possible 3d modeling/rendering rig I can with a budget of about $1000 USD.

The hard drives and OS I can get from my mom's work.

I will primarily be using Blender, but I would like to dabble in AutoCAD, Maya , and 3ds Max if this can handle it.

I'm eager to hear your opinions!
Thanks!

Someone likes the white and black theme! I'm not sure how much the 4GB will be used on that 960 for 3d modeling, but if it's anything like gaming, it won't help much on what many might consider a mid-range card. In which case i'd go the http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx9602gd5toc route and get even more of that color coordinated goodness, as well as an extra $50 in your pocket.

I don't do signatures.

I think you went a bit overboard on stuff that doesnt affect performance, like the MoBo, and you could end up with a better system if you stuck with the price to performance mantra. Here is the build I would do. Note: the CPU is cheaper because I'm on my phone and it's an in-store microcenter deal. I also didnt include peripherals or HDDs since you already labelled them as purchased for $0.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($279.99 @ Micro Center)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($28.95 @ NCIX US)

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($84.98 @ OutletPC)

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($56.99 @ Adorama)

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($62.99 @ Amazon)

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card ($319.99 @ Amazon)

Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($64.99 @ Micro Center)

Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 550W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($69.99 @ Amazon)

Total: $968.87

Thanks for the reply! You got me I'm digging the white and black look right now. I was actually really looking hard at that GPU lol. It does look very sexy and a very appealing price but I heard that Blender and other 3d modeling and rendering software utilize the VRAM more so than games right now and I don't play games really so yeah.
