DVI/ HDMI Adapter

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

For VGA/DVI adapters and DVI/HDMI adapters, the adapter can be at either end.  Just for future reference though this isn't a universal thing with all display cables.  It doesn't work with DisplayPort adapters; DisplayPort ports can output to HDMI and DVI, but DisplayPort inputs cannot accept HDMI or DVI cables with adapters.

It just happens that HDMI and DVI are the same signal, so it doesn't matter which side the adapter is at or which signal is the output and which is the input.

Hi ! :D

Very pleased to be on that forum ! I'll start to help soon, but first, I have a question:

Today I bought a monitor on the internet, with a VGA and a DVI input. I already have a monitor that have 1 VGA and 1 DVI input, and of course I plugged it with a DVI cable.

The problem is that I have 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 DP and 2 Mini DP outputs on my graphics card. I planned to use the HDMI output, so I also bought a DVI/ HDMI adapter: DVI male and HDMI female.

My question is; can I put the DVI side of the adapter plugged in my monitor, and the HDMI cable on the other side, going to my graphics card ? I mean, I don't know how these outputs and cables are working, so I don't know if it works both ways o/

Thanks for reading me :D
