I am planning to do a compact itx build in the next 3-4 months. I realize that new stuff may come out before then, but I just kind of wanted to establish something as a starting point.

There is a pc part picker list here. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/T3HhJx

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($199.99 @ Micro Center)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i 57.5 CFM CPU Cooler  ($44.98 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($109.99 @ Micro Center)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($64.75 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($92.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 285 2GB ITX COMPACT OC Video Card  ($211.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Silverstone RVZ01B Mini ITX Desktop Case  ($79.99 @ Directron)
Power Supply: Silverstone 600W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular SFX Power Supply  ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Monitor: Acer H226HQLbid 60Hz 21.5" Monitor  ($116.99 @ Amazon)
Keyboard: Thermaltake POSEIDON Z Wired Gaming Keyboard  ($69.99 @ Directron)
Mouse: Func MS- 3 Revision 2 Wired Laser Mouse  ($54.99 @ NCIX US)
Headphones: Kingston HyperX Cloud Pro Headset  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1226.62

My budget is around $1000 but I could go up to about $1250 at most. Also of note is the fact that I already own the ram that I am planning to us for this build.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Bad build.

  1. The V300 SSD is the plague on Earth. Run away from it.
  2. Change GPU to the Gigabyte / Asus Gtx 970 mini.
  3. Change PSU to a 450w Gold.
  4. Don't waste that much money on peripherals.... holly ballz. Use it on your system. IF you get extra, THEN spend.
  5. Broadwell CPU instead.

Better, but:

  1. Please, either get a cheaper cooler or go all out on over 100$ liquid.
  2. You could save around 10~20$ bucks with some cheaper RAM and mobo. Not very major, though.
  3. That SSD.... way to waste your money. Either same price 2x the capacity or just save the money.
  4. Get the Asus Strix 970. Same price, but you can SLI later. And it's quieter.

How am I supposed to fit a strix 970 into an elite 110?!

Mistake on my part. I thought that the gigabyte was the regular windforce, so I assumed the strix would fit.
