I have had my eyes on this card for a very long time to pair with an asus sabertooth mark s board. I've heard all good reviews about the card except for the significant price increase. Price aside, is it worth it to spend the extra money or just do some DIY painting to make another brands white

Those have warranty, if you paint it yourself you don't...

I'd much rather go for a GPU that's painted already rather than having to DIY. I personally think you should only DIY if you absolutely have to, and there is no product available in your desired colour scheme.

 

The Galax HOF 980 is a great looking card that I highly recommend. It would go great with a white Sabertooth board.
