Note about the Steelseries Rival

I just have 3 Questions....

1. Wouldn't this be classified as 'Normal Wear'?

2. Can I get a complete refund, instead of a replacement mouse?

3. What do I need to send in?

1: Yes, it would be classified as normal wear. Steel series is aware of this problem on the old rivals and completely understands and will replace your rival if you send in a support ticket.

2:  Considering you have had the mouse for around a year. I highly doubt you will be able to convince them to give you a refund. The option of a replacement is still likely possible. Just make sure you have the receipt and proof of purchase with you and pictures of the mouse.

3: Send in a support ticket to steelseries support with proof of purchase (Receipt or order number) as well as a picture of the wear on your mouse. They will send you a completely new mouse. You do not need to send your old one to replace it as they will just give you a new rival from the new batch with the new inject rubber formula.

I also believe that it will take about 2-3 days to ship to you for your new replacement. If you are wondering

I've been using my Steelseries Rival for approximately 66% of my TF2 Life, or for 400 Hours. (1,000 Including afk/trading hours) That's just over 2 Weeks counting all of time. I've had it since October of 2014, but started to play seriously with it in December. I can easily say that literally everything about the mouse was amazing... When it was new. It turns out that over a period of time, the rubber on the sides of the Steelseries rrval wears out... A LOT. For a lot of people, it's hard to justify $60.00 for a mouse. As a person who spent their $60.00, I'm extremely disappointed at how the premium, more expensive product has build quality inferior to my Inland USB Mouse, which cost $5.00 and has lived for 6 Years and continues to live with no prominent signs of wear, except the slight fading on the logo. My hands are completely hydrated, and I never use Vaseline/Oils on my hands when I use the computer, because I don't want Petroleum Distillates to mess up the plastic. I don't even tightly grip my mouse, the only thing that I do that can be MILDLY bad for the mouse is brushing my finger against the rubber to reach the side buttons.

There is a very clear indent in the rubber that is completely smoothed out, almost as if it was sanded. I notice that if I rub my finger with even a little bit of force, rubber shavings come off of it. This isn't a me-specific problem, I know a few more people with this problem, and if you're wondering what it looks like, this is pretty much how it looks, but mine is a bit more extreme

So if you want a mouse that's meant to last a long time, don't buy the Rival. At the same price point, you could get a superior mouse in build quality, I've heard that the Zowie mice are extremely good. If you still want to buy a Rival, then you should be prepared to either have an ugly mouse or spend money on a new mouse down the road.

You should get it RMAd and get the new batch of Rivals

Apparently Steel series changed the formula of the injected rubber.

It shouldn't have this issue anymore as of 3 months ago.

Rivals have a 1 year warranty

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Went to the micro center and I got the receipt I lost. Apparently I had bought a 2 yr warranty with my steelseries rival, and they said that if I get my Rival there, they'll let me trade it in for a new mouse, but I have to pay extra if its more expensive. I did some digging around, and I saw a Zowie FK1, a mouse I Idolize because of the good sensor, ambidextrous shape, and good weight. It only costs 5 bucks more, so I think I'm going to get it. Going to exchange it next week.

The only thing is, should I try to dupe support into giving me another steelseries rival so I can have a Rival and a FK1? :P?

Morally, that's really up to you whether you want to dupe them.

It's not a bad idea to send a support ticket to steelseries to get a new rival and then trade in that one if you are unsure about the ergonomics of the fk1.

Perhaps you might like the rival more than the fk1.

So you would still be able to use that new rival with the new rubber formula and get a refund if you didn't like your fk 1.
